Boone County is first and foremost an outdoorsman’s dream.  With miles of hiking trails along our beautiful valley, flowers in bloom at the Iowa Arboretum & Gardens, and the activity level heating up along with the Des Moines River at Seven Oaks Recreation.

By now you’ve got to be chomping at the bit to get those golf clubs out of storage.  Boone County features three golf courses to choose from.  Two 18-hole championship level courses exist in and around the city of Boone.  Cedar Pointe Golf course provides multiple tee boxes to allow all levels of golfers a chance to score well.

Just north of Ogden, Don Williams 9-hole course is perfect for a shorter round with fantastic views of the lake from almost every hole.

Rail Explorers is sure to treat you to a good time. This new adventurous pedal-assisted railbikes will take you over the 156′ Bass Point Creek High Bridge, offering a breathtaking view of the Des Moines River Valley.

So much to do. So little…….just make sure you allow enough time!

Float, canoe or kayak the river with Seven Oaks Recreation. Bike across the famous High Trestle Trail near Madrid. Check out the local shopping, dining and entertainment scene. There’s so much to do. And with several ways to stay and play, there’s no rush to head home.

Camping is available at Swede Point, Don Williams, Ledges State Park or the Boone County Fairgrounds. Or grab a room at the American Inn, Baymont Inn & Suites, Cobblestone Inn & Suites, or Super 8.

Everyone should experience fall colors riding high above the valley floor.

Boone County boasts one of the most diverse habitats of flora and fauna in the state of Iowa, and every year around September and October Mother Nature treats you to one of the most spectacular color shows on earth.

A special treat is to view the change of seasons from high above the valley floor in a Boone and Scenic Valley railcar.
